I guess that uploading pre-written notes was too much work haha let's see who comes along next.CUNY LEADS links employers throughout the New York City area to qualified students with disabilities from across the CUNY network of 25 campuses. I've just become so frustrated by this system and I just needed to get this off my chest.Įdit: Lol today, I found out that the note taker who was posting someone else's notes from a previous year got unassigned from being a note taker. I hope that this doesn't come off as being too annoying or rambly or anything. If the note taker does nothing, what can they do? This is just frustrating and I hope that others can relate to this frustration. In my experience, the most they can do is email the note taker and let them know about the issue, but that's kinda the end of that. I know that you can email the OSD note taking service staff about any issues with notes. There are REAL people with REAL disabilities on the other end of that mycourses page. But for the love of god, please have some integrity and do your part if you're here to help those with disabilities who may not be able to have the same sort of access to lecture content. I have even watched people take notes, but not upload anything.Īt the end of the day, I can understand why OSD note taking can seem like an easy source of a little bit of cash, especially given that the notetakers are not monitored at all.
Then, obviously, they don't end up posting any notes, and at the end of the semester they cash in for their $50. In previous semesters, I have watched classmates that I know are the notetakers attend lectures just to surf the internet, attend lectures but not take any notes, and/or skip lectures all together. I know that $50 is not a lot, but you understood what you were getting yourself into, and what you are supposed to be doing is a service that helps countless students every semester.Īlso, just a note that the note users know who the note takers are. YOU are supposed to be taking notes during this CURRENT semester for the CURRENT course. I can definitely see the incentive for doing this aka the $50, but these notes belong to someone else and it is disingenuous to be selling someone else's notes for profit. For individuals who may not be able to attend class regularly due to their disability may not be aware of the changes and may be unknowingly studying the wrong things. I know for a fact that new course topics have been added and that these notes do not encompass all of the notes from lectures that we've had thus far. These notes may not be relevant to the course anymore. I recently found out that the notes that are being uploaded for one of my courses is a set of notes that someone else had written the previous year. It is a service that has definitely helped me immensely. Fortunately, I'm someone who doesn't rely too heavily on note-taking, but it does help me compensate for the many blank spaces in my own notes. I know that a lot of frustration about the OSD has been pointed out already, but I thought that I'd just make a post to express a bit of my current frustration.
